Logrono




Spain, also known as Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country which is located in Southern Europe, and politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest sovereign nation of the three nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with a high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital is Madrid which is also the largest city of the Country.

Logrono is a city in northern Spain, on the Ebro River. It is the capital of the autonomous community of La Rioja, formerly known as Logrono Province. Logrono is located in the northern region of La Rioja, 376 meter above sea level. The Camino de Santiago passes through the city. The population of Logrono in 2004 was 142,143. The city is a centre of the trade in Rioja wine, for which the area is noted, and also produces wood, metal, and textile products.

From the 10th century, possession of Logrono was disputed between the kings of Navarre and those of Castile. The region was finally annexed to Castile in 1173. Alfonso VI of Castile granted Logrono a charter of rights that served as a model for other Spanish cities. The famous people of Logrono are Baldomero Espartero, Prince of Vergara, Manuel Breton de los Herreros, Fausto Elhuyar, Praxedes Mateo Sagasta, Rafael Azcona Ramon Castroviejo, Marques de la Ensenada, Navarrete El Mudo. Logrono is the shopping and financial capital of La Rioja. Its economy is heavily reliant on wine. The patron saint of Logrono is Santa Maria de la Esperanza. The most important festivals are San Bernabe and San Mateo.

Logrono can also be described as the town of best geographical environment and can trace its origins back to prehistoric times. This is evident from the archaeological sites found throughout the town.
