Alcazar de San Juan
Spain, officially the Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country that is located in Southern Europe, politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest of the three sovereign nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital and largest city is Madrid. Alcazar de San Juan or simply Alcazar is a town and city in the province of Ciudad Real, part of the independent community of Castile-La Mancha, Spain. It is located in the plain of La Mancha. Its name is taken from an old Moorish fort, Alcazar in Arabic language, which was afterwards garrisoned by the knights of St John or San Juan in Spanish . Much of the action of Cervantes' Don Quixote takes place around Alcazar. The village of El Toboso was the home of the Lady Dulcinea del Toboso and Argamasilla de Alba is declared by tradition to be the birthplace of the original of Don Quixote himself. It is assumed that Alcazar is the birthplace of Miguel de Cervantes as a birth certificate was found with that name in Santa Maria church, however historians deny this fact. The popular hotels in the city are Ercilla Barbataria Hotel and Ercilla Don Quijote Hotel. Alcazar de San Juan’s sense of self-importance appeared again during the establishment of Autonomous Communities in Spain. Throughout Alcazar de San Juan, one can find museums and also the city is a naturist’s place.
