Lugo
Spain, also known as Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country which is located in Southern Europe and politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest sovereign nation of the three nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with a high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital is Madrid which is also the largest city of the Country. Lugo is one of the preeminent, historical and potential tourism destinations that is located in northwestern Spain, in the autonomous community of Galicia. It is the capital of the province of Lugo. The Lugo municipality listed a population of 92,271 inhabitants in 2005. Lugo was founded by Paulus Fabius Maximus and was initially called as Lucus Augusti, in the 13th BC, Before Crist on the positioning of a Roman military camp, while the Roman Empire finished the conquest, in the North, of the Iberian Peninsula. Located in the early Roman province of Hispania Tarraconensis, Lugo was the chief town of the tribe of the Capori. Though it has a small area, it was the most important Roman town in Gallaecia during the Roman period, the seat of a conventus, one of three in Gallaecia and later became one of the two capitals of Gallaecia and gave its name to the Callaici Lucenses. Lugo was also a suffragan of the archbishopric of Braga. In 561 BC, it was restored to its ancient metropolitan dignity, Ourense, Iria Flavia, Astorga and Britonia being its dependent sees. Councils were also held at Lugo but in 666 BC, it again lost its metropolitan rank.
Lugo, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers and is one of the most visited place. It is also said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origin back to prehistoric times.
