Madrid
Spain, also known as Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country which is located in Southern Europe, and politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest sovereign nation of the three nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with a high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital is Madrid which is also the largest city of the Country. Madrid, one of the pre-eminent, historical and potential tourism destinations, is the capital of Spain and the third most populous city in the European Union. Madrid is also the major city in Spain, as well as in the province and the self-directed community of the same name. Situated on the river Manzanares in the center of the country, Madrid also shares the advantage of being a central market between the autonomous communities of Castilla-Leon and Castilla-La Mancha. Madrid is marked as one of the financial centers of the Iberian Peninsula, together with Lisbon and the political center of Spain. Madrid is also a city of large cultural and political importance. As Madrid holds a modern infrastructure, it has conserved the look and feel of many of its historic neighborhoods and streets. Its landmarks comprise the huge Royal Palace of Madrid, a restored 1850 opera house, the Buen Retiro park, an archaeological museum of international reputation, the imposing 19th century building containing the Spanish National Library, the national archives and three superb art museums. The region of Madrid has a Mediterranean climate with cold winters that experience temperatures lower than 0° Celsius. Summer is likely to be warm with temperatures that consistently surpass 30° Celsius in July and that can often reach 40° Celsius. Due to Madrid's high altitude and dry climate, the night temperatures tend to be cooler, leading to a lower average in the summer months. Madrid is one of Spain's most popular destinations and is well known for the quantity of cultural related attractions and monuments that the city has embraced. It is also said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origin back to prehistoric times.
