Almendralejo
Spain, officially the Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country that is located in Southern Europe, politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest of the three sovereign nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital and largest city is Madrid. Almendralejo is a town in the province of Badajoz, Extremadura, Spain. It is situated at about 27 miles from the south-east of Badajoz, on the main road and rail route between Merida and Seville. It has a population of 30,784 according to the 2004 census. Almendralejo is a thriving town, with broad streets and good modern houses including the palace of the Marquesses of Monsalud, which contains a museum of Roman antiquities discovered in the neighborhood. Local prosperity was greatly enhanced in Almendralejo during the period from 1875 to 1905 by the improvement of communications, which enabled the grain, fruit and wine production on the Guadiana valley to the north of the upland known as the Tierra de Barros to be readily exported by the Merida-Seville railway. Brandy is produced in large quantities in the City.
Almendralejo is also known as the town of best geographical environment and has traced its origins back to prehistoric times. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and can also enjoy its natural beauty concealed by the beautiful landscapes.
