Mataro




Spain, also known as Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country which is located in Southern Europe, and politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest sovereign nation of the three nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with a high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital is Madrid which is also the largest city of the Country.
 
Mataro is one of the pre-eminent, historical and potential tourism destinations that is the capital of the Comarca of Maresme and is located in the province of Barcelona, Catalonia. Mataro is surrounded by the Mediterranean Sea on its either side and hence has the geographical importance as a market place.
 
Mataro foundation history dates back to Roman times when it was a village known as Iluro. Mataro was declared a city by majestic decree, even though at the time of 19th century, the population fell short of the requirement for city status. The first ever railway in Spain was the Barcelona Mataro line which opened on 28 October, 1848 and was led by the Catalan businessman Miquel Biada. The most important historical place including the ruins of a Roman bath house which were discovered recently and can be visited as a tourist place.
 
Today, Mataro has grown as one of Spain's most popular destinations, and is well known for the quantity of cultural related attractions and monuments that the city has embraced. It still possesses more ecclesiastical monuments than any other Spanish city and is also said to be the place of best geographical environment.
