Antequera
Spain, officially the Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country that is located in Southern Europe, politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest of the three sovereign nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital and largest city is Madrid. Antequera is a city in the province of Malaga, part of the Spanish autonomous community of Andalusia. It lies 47 kilometers north of the city of Malaga, at the foot of the mountain ranges El Torcal and El Arco Calizo Chimenea, 575 m above mean sea level. It overlooks the fertile valley bounded to the south by the Sierra de los Torcales, and to the north by the river Guadalhorce. It occupies a commanding position, while the remains of its walls. It has a Moorish castle on a rock which overhangs the town admirably. At 817 kilometers, the municipality is the largest, in terms of area, in the province of Malaga and one of the largest in Spain. It had a population of 41,197 people in 2002. On the north of the city there are two Bronze Age burial mounds the Dolmen de Menga and Dolmen de Viera. The larger one, Dolmen de Menga, is 25 meters in diameter and four metres high. It is known as the heart of Andalusia, because of its central location between Malaga, Granada, Cordoba, and Seville and is noted for two large Bronze Age dolmens. It is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
