Aranda de Duero
Spain, officially the Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country that is located in Southern Europe, politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest of the three sovereign nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital and largest city is Madrid. Aranda de Duero is a Spanish town municipality in the south of the province of Burgos. It has a population of roughly 32,000 people with the post code of 09400. The nearest airport of the town is in Valladolid. It is the capital of the Ribera del Duero wine region and is at the junction of many transport routes across Spain. The N1 autovia runs in the north and south by Aranda along with visitors and import and export goods travel between Madrid and the south coast. The other main road runs east to west and joins Portugal with important cities on the way. Its location at the juncture of these routes has led to Aranda de Duero being recognized as a business centre. A dish known as Lechazo is a local speciality, which is roast baby lamb. It is served with a basic salad and torta bread for dipping in the meat juices. An ecclesiastical synodal council was held at Aranda in the province of Burgos in Spain, in 1473, by Alfonso Carillo, Archbishop of Toledo, to overcome the ignorance and evil lives of ecclesiastics. The town is unique for having wine cellars that interconnect below the streets of the town centre. Wine clubs celebrate special events in these cellars.
