Crevillent




Spain, also known as Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country which is located in Southern Europe, and politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest sovereign nation of the three nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with a high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital is Madrid which is also the largest city of the Country.

Crevillent is a town and municipality located in the province of Alicante, part of the autonomous community of Valencia, Spain. It is situated in the comarca of Baix Vinalopo, and lies at the foot of the mountain range known locally as Serra de Crevillent. It has an area of 103.3 square kilometers and, according to the 2003 census, a total population of 26,260 inhabitants.

Crevillent terrain is dry, and its main vegetation is composed of carob trees, almond trees, olive trees and esparto. At present, Crevillent has the most important industry of carpets in Spain. The town was probably settled by Romans. In 1263, during the period known as Reconquista, James I of Aragon liberated the city from the Moors. The most important tourist places of the city are the Catholic church of Mare de Deu de Betlem and a museum with works of Mariano Benlliure, a Valencian sculptor.

A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages, Crevillent is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
