Denia
Spain, officially the Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country that is located in Southern Europe, politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest of the three sovereign nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital and largest city is Madrid. Denia is a beautiful place situated in the province of Alicante in Spain. It is located on the Costa Blanca halfway between Alicante and Valencia and has a population is 36,200 in 2003. A fractional ruin of a fortress is in the middle of that place. Every year, the town of Denia is full of celebrations. A well known fiesta Fallas is held every March. Big paper mache statues, known as Fallas are set up throughout the town, and then burnt. In July, the popular Bous a la Mar is held and in this week one can watch bulls run down the main street, Marques de Campo. They are chased in the Mediterranean Sea by those who dare to enter a makeshift bull ring with them. It is also a terminus of a scenic meter gauge railway line through the mountains from Alicante known as the Limon Express. A group of English raisin traders lived in Denia from 1800 till the Spanish Civil War in the late 1930s. In the days of Al Andalus, Denia served as the capital of a taifa kingdom, ruling over part of the Valencian coast and Ibiza. The Slavic slaves, Saqaliba, managed to free themselves and run the taifa. A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages, Denia is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
