Ecija
Spain, also known as Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country which is located in Southern Europe, and politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest sovereign nation of the three nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with a high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital is Madrid which is also the largest city of the Country. Ecija is a city in the region of Seville, Spain. It is situated in the Andalusian countryside, 95 kilometers from the city of Seville. According to the 2001 poll, Ecija has a total population of 36,896 inhabitants, ranking as the 5th most populous city in the region. The river Genil, the main branch of the river Guadalquivir, runs through the urban area of the city. The market of Ecija is based on agriculture, cattle and textile industry. The city has over twenty churches and convents, some of them with Gothic, Mudejar, Renaissance or Baroque towers, as well as an Arab fortress. There are numerous archaelogical remains of ancient Greek and Roman settlements. Ecija was known as Augusta Firma Astigi. Astigi was a significant town of Hispania Baetica, and the seat of one of the four conventi where the chief men met together at major centers, at fixed times of year, under the eye of the proconsul, to oversee the administration of justice, was also an early seat of a diocese. Ecija is the home to numerous superb baroque churches, the towers of each glisten with brilliantly colored tiles which can be spied from far in the distance. There are also some wonderful houses which date back to the 18th century when the local nobility bought homes in the town. Many of the mansions are mainly distinctive for their colorful architecture displaying interesting shapes and patterns. A city known for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages, Ecija is one of the favorite holiday destinations for most of the vacation lovers.
