Sabadell
Spain, also known as Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country which is located in Southern Europe, and politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest sovereign nation of the three nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with a high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital is Madrid which is also the largest city of the Country. In Roman times a little village called Sabadell existed on a plain, began to grow and its population was about 600 people with 152 houses in 1378. Sabadell was enclosed by a wall, but due to population growth in the 16th century, some houses were built outside the wall. At that time the first textile industries appeared in town, dedicated especially to wool clothing. This industry increased over the next centuries, and in 1800 the town population was about 2000 people. The 19th century brought two important developments to the town namely in 1856 the railroad arrived, and in 1877 the town was dubbed a city. The city had become the most important producer of wool clothing in Spain, and these clothes achieved worldwide fame. Sabadell is one of the largest cities in the comarca similar to the UK counties of Valles Occidental in Catalonia, Spain. It is in the south of the comarca, on the Ripoll River, twenty kilometer north-west of Barcelona. Sabadell is located 190 metres above sea level. It is the capital of the comarca, sharing this title with the city of Terrassa. Sabadell is basically a commercial and industrial city, home to 200,905 people as of 2006, and it is 37.9 square kilometer. Sabadell is an important communications point. Two motorways run beside the city namely C-58 from Barcelona to Manresa and A-7 from France and Girona to Tarragona, Valence and Andalusia. A railroad line crosses the city, the RENFE, Red Nacional de los Ferrocarriles Espanoles line from Barcelona to Lleida and another one finishes in the city the FGC, Ferrocarrils De La Generalitat De Catalunya line from Barcelona to Sabadell by Sant Cugat del Valles. It has an airport too. Sabadell, justifiably so, enjoys a very positive reputation with worldwide travelers, and is one of the most visited place.
