Getafe




Spain, also known as Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country which is located in Southern Europe, and politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest sovereign nation of the three nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with a high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital is Madrid which is also the largest city of the Country.
 
Getafe is a municipality in the southern metropolitan area of Madrid, Spain, 12 kilometers from downtown. The population of the town is 155,997 as of December 2004. Getafe has an industrial and commercial center, military airport and the city has good transportation links with Madrid by several highways and the metropolitan Metro. Among the numerous industries located in Getafe, there is a factory of EADS, formerly CASA, where numerous parts of the Airbus are manufactured.
 
Getafe is also head of the University Carlos III, installed in an old military barracks, perfectly renewed for their new use. The town's soccer team, Getafe CF, plays in the Spanish first division 2004-2005. They play at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez. On the south eastern side of the city, some parts of the airframe of the Airbus A380 are built. It is not too exceptional to see an A380 fly in and out of the air base. Getafe is linked to Madrid by the bus lines as well as two commuter trains lines and the new metrosur with eight stations. Getafe is an attractive city with natural beauty and historical places, while traveling in Spain.
