Granadilla de Abona
Spain, also known as Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country which is located in Southern Europe, and politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest sovereign nation of the three nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with a high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital is Madrid which is also the largest city of the Country. Granadilla de Abona is located in the southern island of Spain, occupying an area of 155 square kilometers. In 1991, its population was 17,141 but presently, the population has increased because of influx of illegal immigrants. A lot of them are from the Western Sahara, Colombia, Cuba, and other African and Latin American countries. Its province is Santa Cruz de Tenerife and the Island is Tenerife. The municipality extends from the center of the island to the mountain of Guajara which is 2,718 meters. It is situated in this municipality to the Atlantic Ocean and is the second highest mountain on the island, after El Teide. Granadilla de Abona achieved the status of a municipality in the nineteenth century, and a highway connecting it to other parts of the island in the 1930s. The Reina Sofía Airport is situated in this municipality, along with the beachside town of El Medano. La Montana Roja, The Red Mountain is a volcanic cone located in El Medano. It is a protected natural reserve, with five other espacios naturales, which comprise 25 percent of the municipality’s total area. It is a city famous for its historic myths and traditions, scenic beauty, cooperative people and luxurious hotels and cottages.
