Sanlucar de Barrameda
Spain, also known as Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country which is located in Southern Europe, and politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest sovereign nation of the three nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with a high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital is Madrid which is also the largest city of the Country. Sanlucar de Barrameda or simply Sanlucar is a city in the northwest of Cádiz province, part of the autonomous community of Andalucía in southern Spain. Sanlucar is located at the mouth of the Guadalquivir River. It was in the 15th and 16th centuries one of the most important ports of the trade which connected the Atlantic with the Mediterranean. Sanlucar also borders Donana National Park and is known for its seafood and manzanilla as well as a popular tourist resort with various hotels. Sanlucar is a paradise for those who love to eat and drink, one of the better opportunities is the Sanlucar Tapas Fair, a competition of the local gastronomy where the winner is the visitor. Other events are, Feria de la Manzanilla in early June which leads up to the Noches de Bajo de Guía flamenco season, classical and jazz festivals and concerts and of course the Rocio pilgrimage. This city has a lot of historical monuments, such as the castle of Santiago, from the 15th century, the palace of the Infantes of Orleans and Borbón, present site of the City Hall, the church of Nuestra Senora de la O, the palace of the dukes of Sidonia, which at present houses the municipal archives and the convent of Santo Domingo, from the 16th century.
Sanlucar became a port of reference and departure for various Spanish conquistadors after the discovery of the New World. Salucar also witnessed the arrival of the first ship to circumnavegate Earth. Sanlucar de Barrameda enjoys a very good reputation amongst worldwide travelers and hence is one of the most visited places in Spain.
