Sant Adria de Besos
Spain, also known as Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country which is located in Southern Europe, and politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest sovereign nation of the three nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with a high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital is Madrid which is also the largest city of the Country. Sant Adria de Besos is a municipality in the comarca or county of the Barcelonès in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated at the mouth of the Besos River, extending to both sides of the estuary. The original settlement with the parish church is on the left bank of the river, in the north of the municipal territory: however the municipality is now a collection of residential and, especially, industrial zones, integrated with the city of Barcelona. It has a population of 32,845 within an area of 3.87 square kilometers and has a population density of 8487 inhabitants per kilometer. The origins of the town start with the parish church of Sant Adria, which was referred to in 1012, where in about 1092 a priory of Augustinian monks, dependants of Sant Ruf d'Avinyo, was founded. Sant Oleguer came to this priory from 1095 to 1108 before becoming the bishop of Barcelona and, later, the archbishop of Tarragona. In 1127 the priory was moved to Santa Maria de Terrassa. Surrounding this church, upon a small hill fourteen metres high, to the west of the River Besos, is the nucleus of the original village. Currently, Sant Adria is a town dominated by the service industry, but with a diverse manufacturing sector, especially in the areas of metal-work, chemistry, and construction, consisting mostly of medium-sized companies. In 2004, Sant Adria de Besos was part of the Universal Forum of Cultures. Sant Adria de Besos enjoys a very good reputation amongst worldwide travelers and hence is one of the most visited places in Spain.
