San Javier

Spain, also known as Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country which is located in Southern Europe, and politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest sovereign nation of the three nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with a high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital is Madrid which is also the largest city of the Country.

Murcia-San Javier Airport is a military air base and civilian passenger airport located in San Javier, 17 miles south of Murcia, a city and municipality on the river Segura in southeastern Spain and the capital of the Autonomous Community of the Region of Murcia. It is operated by Aena, Aeropuertos Espanoles y Navegacion Aerea, the Spanish airport authority.

The Murcia airport can receive airplanes up to the size of Boeing 757 or 767. It has been declared fire category 5 by the IATA, International Air Transport Association, and it has one ambulance available. Because Murcia is a popular destination for charter groups, the airport is flown by a number of charter airlines. Over the last few years, Murcia Airport has become busier, thanks to the arrival of several low-cost airlines. According to Aena, the passenger numbers have jumped from just 88,608 in 1995 to a staggering 848,037 in 2004.

Flying to Murcia-San Javier from somewhere like the UK gives one the choice of six airlines offering regular, scheduled flights from 17 different UK airports. In addition to some of the airlines mentioned below you can also fly to Murcia on Easyjet, Flybe, jet2.com and Ryanair. Although Murcia Airport is on the Costa Calida it lends itself well to people travelling to the southern tip of the Costa Blanca, particularly resort towns such as Torrevieja.

San Javier enjoys a very good reputation amongst worldwide travelers and hence is one of the most visited places in Spain.
