Sevilla




Spain, also known as Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country which is located in Southern Europe, and politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest sovereign nation of the three nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with a high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital is Madrid which is also the largest city of the Country.
 
Seville is the financial capital of southern Spain, which is irrigated by the river Guadalquivir.  It is the capital of Andalusia and of the province of Sevilla. It was ruled from Cordoba but as a port, it preserved its strategic importance. Emir Abd ar-Rahman II built a fleet and arsenal at Seville in the mid 9th century. The people of the city are known as Sevillanos and it has a population of 704,154 inhabitants as of 2005. The population of the urban area was 1,043,000 people in 2000.
 
The city is in the inland, but 6 meters above the sea level. Seville from a long time was an important sea port, before the silting of the Guadalquivir. From Seville, Ferdinand Magellan got the ships for his circumnavigation. Most of the Spanish Empire's silver from the New World came to Europe in the Spanish treasure fleet, which landed in Seville. It was home to the Casa de Contratacion, the government agency which oversaw all overseas trade. Seville holds the most important collection of Spanish administration in America.
 
Seville is one of the most visited countries, which enjoys a positive reputation with worldwide travelers It is also said the place of best geographical environment and can trace its origins back to prehistoric times.
