Terrassa

Spain, also known as Kingdom of Spain, is one of the oldest inhabited regions on the planet. It is a country which is located in Southern Europe, and politically organized as a parliamentary monarchy. It is the largest sovereign nation of the three nations that make up the Iberian Peninsula. Administratively, Spain is divided into 50 provinces, grouped into 17 autonomous communities and 2 autonomous cities with a high degree of autonomy. The name Spain comes from the Latin name Hispania whose capital is Madrid which is also the largest city of the Country.

Terrassa is a municipality in Barcelona province, Catalonia, Spain. It is one of two major cities of the comarca of Valles Occidental the other being Sabadell. It is located at 277 metres above sea level and the Population is about 200,000 in 2005. Terrassa is 20 kilometres from the city of Barcelona. The city was an Olympic sub site for the field hockey competition during the Barcelona Olympics of 1992, when the Spanish women's team won the Olympic gold medal for this sport. The city's origins can be traced with certainty to the Roman era when it was called Egara, though there is evidence of earlier occupation.

The city had a long association with the arts, at one time being referred to as the Catalan Athens. Amongst the many notable modernist buildings is the Gaudiesque Masia Can Freixa, originally intended to be a textile mill and now a conservatoire. The city was also home to a large textile industry during the 19th century.

Terrassa is also said to be as one of the best geographical environment and can trace its origins back to prehistoric times. This is evident from the archaeological sites found throughout the Terrassa. Today, one can also learn about its history, from its earliest times and pursue enthusiasm in its natural beauty and populace.
