The Convent of Santa Maria of the Owners: A Catholic Treasure
The convent of Santa Maria of the Owners was founded in 1419 by Doña Juana Rodriguez Maldonado, a widow of Don Juan Sevillian Sanchez, accountant of King Juan II of Castile. Rests of the palace that was of Morisco style and a cover with a pointed arc and beautifully tiled are conserved. On June of 1533, the City council granted lands to this community to build the church (of a single one pointed ship). Its facade is of Morisco style. Claustro forms two galleries: the inferior one, formed by reduced arcs and with very well carved capitals. The superior one is Morisco and duplicates the arcs and columns of the inferior one in number.
It is conserved and covered with pointed arc and magnificently tiled. The church of the convent was constructed in the middle of the 16th century. It consists of a single pointed ship, with a facade of Morisco style. At the moment is the Convent of MM. The most outstanding is Claustro, in the form of an irregular pentagon and with original statues of the 16th century; a true jewel of the Spanish Renaissance. The church was designed by Fray Martín of Santiago, Dominican, in the middle of the 16th century and consists of a ship that contains a baroque altarpiece. The temple is covered by seven vaults with one apsidal. They also emphasize several paintings of the 15th century like a representation of the Sagrada Familia that is kept in the choir of the nuns. This convent of the order of Dominican nuns of Santa Maria of the Owners is located in the seat of Concilio de Trento. In its interior, a beautiful Morisco door of arc pointed is conserved. In its origin, it was a palace to the mudéjar of Don Juan Sanchez of Seville. His woman, Juana Rodriguez Maldonado, donated it for the foundation of the convent in 1419. In the 16th century, they raised the lateral cover, church - gothic and Claustro.
